Charles is an ABC News Breakfast Reporter, accomplished handcyclist and spinal cord injury ambassador.
My story
My dream of having a career in aviation was cut short just four years after my first flying lesson. A motorbike accident in South Australia’s Riverland shattered my spine and severed my spinal cord. That injury left me a quadriplegic.

The next mission
In July Charles will be undertaking his biggest challenge yet. Handcycling from Perth to Sydney, all to raise money for spinal cord injury research.
Partnering with Wings For Life, Charles is aiming to raise $1,000,000 to help fund world-class studies and trials. Why? So that in years to come, people who damage their spinal cord don’t have the same outcome as Charles.
The journey is expected to take two months and once completed, will mean Charles will be the first person to handcycle from Perth to Sydney.
